The low loader trailer is a special form of a trailer and is especially used for the transportation of extremely heavy or large goods.
The loading area is placed very closely to the ground and is also longer than normal trailers. This offers more space for bulk goods.

The low loader’s superstructure offers numerous advantages.
Firstly, the process of charging and discharging is simplified due to the deep-set loading area. It is easier for construction machines or other vehicles to drive up a flat loading ramp.
Secondly, the low loader is able to pass certain routes with obstacles which would be impassable using trucks or other transportation vehicles. These obstacles could be tunnels, power lines or similar objects with limited heights. If one does not have a low loader, one would have to take another route to avoid these obstacles but that would be very time-consuming as well as expensive.

Secondly, the number of axles was adjusted to the vehicle’s size. Low loaders can be equipped with up to 16 axles which are installed to the front and backside of the low loader as well as to its underside. Due to that, the weight is better distributed which leads to an enhanced handling and cargo securing.
Some versions come with axles which are driven hydraulically, so it is possible to drive extremely difficult and curvy routes even with heavy freight. This would be impossible for vehicles with rigid axles.

These different features are the advantages of a low loader and the reason why this vehicle is extremely versatile.
It is often used for the transportation of other vehicles like construction machines (e.g. excavators, tractors, and bulldozer) but the low loader has also the capacity to carry forklifts and other trucks. But its specialty is the carriage of entire houses, boilers for power stations or tanks. In order to do so, entire streets and highways have to be closed.
