The category of construction vehicles or construction equipment includes all the machines which are mobile, semi-mobile or stationary and are driven by a combustion engine or an electric motor.
They are can be found either in the construction sector or secondary contract work. Their tasks range from the transportation of the building materials over their processing up to their application at the construction sites.
Since construction vehicles come very handy, they are also used in mining (including strip mine), in the agricultural sector and at landfills.

The different vehicles are distinguished by their functions, which is why there are several classification groups like earth-movers, transport equipment and machines for the transportation and processing of concrete and mortar. Depending on the purpose of use the vehicles differentiate in their construction, chassis and attachments.
Earth-movers are used to loosen the ground, its removal and transportation. Furthermore, they support the application and compaction of the soil or other bulk material. In general, one differentiates between different kinds of excavators such as bulldozers and compact excavators.

A compact excavator is able to lose and remove the soil at a particular position and transport the material over a short distance.
Earth-movers as well have different types of equipment. The hydraulic excavator for example falls in the category of compact excavators. The hydraulic excavator can be equipped with several chassis like a caterpillar traction system or wheel carriages. In addition to that, the upper structure is equipped with a cantilever arm with suitable accessory equipment (e.g. a shovel). This is the reason why this vehicle is almost applicable everywhere.
There is also a modification of the hydraulic excavator, the telescopic excavator. This vehicle has a telescopic jib instead of a rigid one, so its radius of action is increased.

Another category is the one of the mobile excavators. The mobile excavator is only able to fulfill its tasks by moving the entire machine.
Among others, the wheel loader is one of the vehicles in this category. It is known to be an all-round machine due to its quick-attach system which enables a fast change of accessory equipment. This feature allows a prompt reaction to any change in the environment.
Using a swing loader, it is possible to turn the shovel in both directions.
The advantages of a mobile excavator in comparison to a compact excavator are its efficiency regarding the transportation process and its loading capacity.

The third category of earth-movers is the category of bulldozers.
These vehicles used for loosening the ground and transport the soil or other kinds of material over long distances. One of their advantages is their high engine power and their bulldozer blade. But it should be noted that bulldozers are only suitable for flat areas.

Transport machines are also used for the material’s transportation over long distances. The most of them are able to discharge the load automatically, as for example the dump truck. The dump truck is charged with the help of either compact or mobile excavators.
Front loaders are used when it comes to smaller construction sites or in the sector of gardening and landscaping. They are equipped with a shell-like loading are which is attached to the driver’s seat pointing towards.
