A tipper or also called tipping bridge is a special kind of utility vehicle. This body with a tipping bridge serves for the transport of bulk materials like gravel or sand.

The tipping bridge is connected over a kind of tipping mechanism with the chassis of the truck. The loading area can be tilted with the aid of the mechanism, so that the load can slide down. Often tippers have an even cargo area and every tipper has the board wall to the driver’s cabin rigidly mounted.

There are three different kinds of tipping bridges. Rear dump trucks, two-way tipper and three-way tipper. These different model bodies distinguish by their possibilities of unloading.

Rear dump trucks are only able to open the tailgate for unloading while two-way tippers can open the right and left sidewall, but this kind of construction is rarely to find.

The most usual kind of body construction is the three-way tipper. This one has only the tailboard to the driver’s cabin rigidly mounted while the other three sidewalls can be opened all at once or separated for unloading. For bigger transports it makes sense to rent a dumper, which is often applied in open-cast mining.
