Mercedes truck models – Utility vehicles in the highest quality

Mercedes-Benz belongs to the vehicle group of the Daimler AG. Since the fusion of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with Benz & Cie in the year of 1926 the company produces besides cars also utility vehicles and trucks. Under the term of Daimler Trucks the company designs transporters trucks, utility vehicles (Unimogs). Furthermore Mercedes-Benz produces special vehicles, these includes emergency vehicles, armored vehicles, cabs, ambulance vehicles and special utility vehicles.
Since 1965 trucks are produced on the main site in Wörth am Rhein. All truck series by Mercedes are produced here. The series are called Actros, Atego, Axor, Econic, Zetros and Unimog.
The Mercedes-Benz Atego is also called series LKN which stands for light class vehicles. In 1998 after 14 years of construction time the Atego was presented. First the small truck was fitted with a four cylinder diesel motor. The Atego has capacity of 4,25 l or a straight-six cylinder with 6,37 l cubic capacity. The Atego performs between 122 and 279 HP. For the premiere the truck by Mercedes-Benz was offered with four different driver’s cabins. Further there are different bodies available like tipper, platform trailer or semitrailer. The Atego is offered with several tonnages: Atego 7xx (6,5 t), Atego 8xx (7,49 t), Atego 8xx (8,0 t), Atego 9xx (9,5 t), Atego 10xx (10,5 t), Atego 12xx (11,99 t), Atego 13xx (13,5 t), Atego 15xx (15 t). In 1998 there were no medium series by Mercedes-Benz between Actros and Atego. Therefore a bigger Atego was presented which was introduced in the year 2000. The cubic capacity was enlarged from 102 to 106 mm and has a performance of 326 HP. In 2001 the company introduced the model Axor which supersedes the heavier series of the Atego.

The Mercedes-Benz Axor has tonnages of 18-26 tons and fills the gap between the big truck Actros and the smaller model Atego. The Axor does not have a V6 diesel motor but a straight-six cylinder OM 906 LA. The Axor has a performance of 326 HP and a cuib capacity of 7,2 l and a bigger version with 12 l cubic capacity with up to 428 HP. Axor has also different variants of the driver’s cabin which were also offered for the Atego. It is also possible to attach a tipper, semitrailer and a platform trailer. Also the gearbox of the Atego (5-gear, 6-gear and 12-gear) was used for the Axor. In 2004 a facelift of Axor was introduced. The headlights and the front were adapted for the Axor. Mercedes-Benz changed the cockpit completely. IT is now more modern and resembles a car. There is a new cockpit in three different versions, distribution traffic, long-distance traffic and a comfort variant. The standard version of the Axor is the distribution variant. In the next facelift of 2011 the vehicle front was changed and adapted features of the third generation of the Actros. In 2012 the successor models Antos and Arocs were presented. Mercedes-Benz Antos is designed for the heavy distribution transport and the Arocs is conceptualized for the application in the construction traffic.
The new Mercedes-Benz Antos is sold since the 01.07.2012. Together with the model Actros replaced the old Antos. In contrast to former times, this new truck model is not appropriate for every truck body, but designed for specific areas and purposes. The Antos is available in the length of 2,3 m breadth and in medium long (2m) and in a short version (1,7m). The model Antos is available as a semitrailer and platform truck with overall 67 different wheel bases. You can choose between two different models, the Volumer with a lower frame and a Loader with low unloaded weight. The design of the Antos resembles the model Actros but it has a different headlight optic and a radiator grill with 3 or 4 discs. All models have a low height and an engine tunnel. You can choose between 3 different motor types with 13 different performance levels between 238 and 510 HP.
The model Mercedes-Benz Arocs denominates all trucks and semitrailers which are used for the construction traffic. The model is suitable for on-road and off-road applications. The Arocs is the successor of Actros and Axor and was firstly introduced in 2013 on the bauma in Munich. Designing this vehicle was focused on the application purpose.

The Mercedes-Benz Actros is the successor of the heavy class. It was first presented in 1996 and in the years 2003 and 2008 changed and in 2011 the second generation of the Actros (new Actros) was introduced. The technical improvements were the compressed air braking system, disc brakes and a new Telligent-maintenance system. Designing the truck aerodynamic engineers worked together with the designers. So the flow resistance was decreased by 17%. You can choose between 2 driver’s cabins at the Actros model. These vary between the smaller driver’s cabin with an outer length of 1,7 m, a medium one of 1.95 m and a big version of 2,20 m. Further you choose between a V6 or V8 motor, here the performances range from 313-571 HP. In the Actros MP 2 are performances of up to 612 HP possible. Since 2012 the new Actros is sold by Mercedes-Benz and has won the price “Truck of the year” in 2012. For the first time the Keyless-Go system is applied which is already used for Mercedes-Benz cars. You press the start-stop button and the key has a range of up to 100 m. Also new security functions like a tire pressure check, emergency brake assistant and a lane-departure warning.
The model Mercedes-Benz Zetros is since 2008 on the market. This one is designed for off-road applications. The German armed forces proved the vehicle and applied since 2012 110 vehicles, 12 of them are applied in Afghanistan. The Zetros is designed as a front-wheel steering vehicle and especially suitable for all-terrain. Further the motor does not have to be tilted for maintenance and repair works. Zetros is only available with all-wheel-drive. The vehicle is driven with a straight-six cylinder diesel engine with 7,2 l capacity and 326 HP: The emission limits are Euro 3 and Euro 5. Standardly the Zetros is fitted with a 9-speed manual gearbox. The chassis is whether fitted with 4×4 or 6×6 axles with whether a weight of 16,5-18 t or 25-27 t available.
The Unimog is another truck model of the brand Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle is fitted with an all-wheel-drive and especially for agriculture, military and forestry suitable. Further the Unimog can also be applied as drilling vehicles in emergency aids. Since 1945 the unimog is produced and since 2002 in the main production site in Wörth am Rhein.
