Concrete Pumps

Further information on the topic Concrete Pumps
can be found easy-rent.eu.

Concrete pumps are utility vehicles which blend and transport fresh concrete. They are mainly used for the construction of buildings, bridges and reservoir dams.

The concrete pump itself is a powerful pressure pump which transports the concrete mixture through pipes directly to the operation area.

The pump is positioned on the chassis and is furthermore equipped with a placing boom and a pumping system. Both parts ensure that the fluid concrete can be poured directly to the area where it is needed.

The first concrete pump was released in 1918 and was invented by the German contractor Max Griese, who also founded the famous construction company ‘*Max Griese Bau GmbH*’. In cooperation with the engineer Fritz Hell he planned to reduce the power consumption of the methods back then and also find a way to pump the fresh concrete from the mixing machine directly to the paving site. By doing so, he found a way to transport the fresh concrete cost-effectively and in a fast way.

Back then, the auto concrete pumps could only reach a height of 38 meters and a distance of 120 meters. Nowadays, the placing boom ran reach a height of 100 meters.

Auto-concrete pumps can be subdivided according to their pumping systems, which are namely piston pumps, rotor pumps and transfer tubes. Piston pumps have drive cylinders which are powered by oil pumps. Rotor pumps again have a rather simple pumping system and work by using rolls which transport the concrete.
Rotor pumps can reach a pressure up to 30 bar whereas piston pumps work with up to 400 bar.

The pump’s placing booms are mostly manufactured in a box-type construction. The cantilever arms are driven hydraulically and have flexible knee joints and are therefore able to get to the operation area very flexible.

But concrete pumps are not just used in the construction industry, they can also be a great help when it comes to nuclear disasters like Tschernobyl or more recently Fukushima, where the pumps were used in order to transport water for cooling or extinguishing.

With certain placing booms, auto-concrete pumps are able to transport concrete over a length of 100 meters. In this case, it is possible to pump concrete with a grain size up to 63 mm.
