A concrete mixer is a machine with special equipment which forms concrete out of a combination of cement, sand or gravel and water. They are applied in the building industry and serve for delivering, producing and the processing of fresh concrete at the construction site.

Portable and non-portable

Concrete mixers are classified in two groups, portable and non-portable. Portable concrete mixers are used for smaller works, it has wheels and with a revolving drum it mixes the ingredients so the concrete can be made at the construction site. Unfortunately, portable concrete mixers have a big drawback because it needs long mixing time and he concrete is often not really well mixed.
The non-portable concrete mixer is attached to a truck and outfitted with special equipment. It is able to carry the concrete to the construction area and to reprocess the mixture. The first concrete mixing truck was invented in 1958, before that the concrete had to be mixed at the construction site. The Stetter company designed the first concrete mixer which was mounted on a truck. It enables to mix the concrete in a short time. Concrete pumps

The concrete mixing truck is equipped with a spiral blad which turns the drum in one direction to mix the concrete. When the drum turns in the other direction, the concrete discharges. Often there are also concrete pumps used, because the truck is not able to get as close to the construction to install the concrete. The concrete pumps transfer the liquid concrete through hoses to the spot where it is needed.
